MOANATAIRI.
The only thing of interest that has occurred during the week in the company's workings is the cutting of a leader in the eastern stones from No. 2 slide at 160 feet level. The leader is about. 8 inches thick and looks well, good colors of gold being risible. The following is the mine manager's usual weekly report:— " The risfl to communicate with Point Bussell winze is now up 55 feet, 25 feet having been risen during the fortnight. There are stringers of quartz in the reef letting out a little water, and after another fortnight's work I purpose cutting into the reef to let down water from winze above. The engine shaft has been sunk 12£ feet during the fortnight,' making a total depth of 37 feet below the 150-feet level. There are large leaders and patches of crystallized quartz in and about the ilide sunk through. The south cross-cut at 150-feet level has been extended 18£ feet through good country. In the stope east from No. 2 slide on No. 9 reef a leader from six' to eight inches thick has been discovered in the footwall showing large quantities of mineral with, good blotches of gold. It will have to be fur* ther opened on. before I can speak as to its productiveness. 80 feet level.—ln driving west Nol 2 reef is two feet thick, and has shown colours of gold. During past fortnight the stuff, from various stopes has been poor. 294 tons have, been crushed for a yield of 131ozs retorted gold.—l am, &c, Bobt. Cox n. .-. i. ; The tributers, Kae and party, had a partial oleaning up on Saturday afternoon at the company's mill for the first-class yield of 131 ounces of gold. To-day they had another retorting which produced 12$ ozs gold. > All this gold is the produce of about 21 tons of general dirt and a parcel of picked stone." This is the best return that any of the Moanatairi tributers have obtained for a long time. Boyle and party's ertfshing produced 120ozs Bdwts gold.
