COROMANDEL.
PEESENTATION TO FATHEB O'BEILLY.
(VBOX OUB OWN COBBSBPOKDENT).
October 23.
A presentation—consisting of an illuminated address, a chalice, and a pane of sovereigns — was made to Father O'Eeilly by the residents of Coromandel this afternoon at the Catholic Schoolroom. Mr George McLeod, in making the presentation, referred to the manner in which the Bey. Father had performed his duties at Coromandel* and the regret which all. the inhabitants of the distriot felt that his removal had been rendered necessary. If Father O'Beilly's coming had been more widely known, the attendance on that occasion would have been much greater. Father O'Eeilly returned thanks for the marks of esteem the residents had that, day given him. It would have afforded him the greatest pleasure to remain a few days amongst them, but his duties, at the Thames, "and the irrefrilar means of communication precluded him from doing so.. He understood that the presentation made to him had been contributed to by members of all denominations, and he would on that account esteem it more than if it emanated solely from his own flock, as he was glad to see such a friendly feeling prevailing. Again thanking them for their kindness, and assuring them Of his kindly regard, the rev. gentleman bade' them farewell! The address (which has already been published) had been tastefully engrossed by Mr James Slator of Auckland, and was read by Mr D. F. Ryan. The chalice is a beautiful work of art, and was procured from Melbourne. It was inscribed as follows:—" To the Bey. Father O'lteilly from the people of Coromandel Goldfield as a mark of their esteem and regard on his leaving the district." Daring the eight years Father O'Beilly has been' laboring in the district he has won the respect and esteem of all the people of Coromandel, and the presentation of to-day but inadequately expresses those feel* ings.
