ASHBURTON.
Saturday! t A fire occurred here at 2 o'clock this morning, and resulted in the destruction of H. Friedlander's cottage and Pearce's tobacconist's: shop and billiard-room. Both buildings belonged to Friedlander. The cottage and furniture were insured in the Norwich Union for £150. The shop, including a billiard table and other effects, in the same office for £375. The fire, which broke out in the shop, was the result of pure Acpident. A man named Attacka,-a house painter by trade, between 40 and 50 years of age, was arrested this morning for, rape; on a girl 12 years of age. The accused is a married man with a family.
