Thames Harbor Board.

The usual fortnightly meeting of this body was held at the Council Chambers last evening. Present—the Chairman, the Mayor, Messrs Mennie, Spencer, Wilson and Gibbons. - ' ; MINUTES. •:■:■ The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. DBEDOING. A letter was read from George S. Scudder advocating the Harbor Board using spoon barges in preference to a steam dredge, as such barges were cheaply maintained. The writer had been employed with these barges at Port Adelaide, where they had worked very well. The Chairman said that he had sent a letter to Wellington asking for further information relative to the American system of dredging, and he would not be able to report on the best system of dredging that evening. At next meeting he would be in a better position to report.

THE GBIDIBON. The Chairman said that the committee appointed to report on the best position for the gridiron had met, and engaged' Mr McLaren to report on the matter. His report was not yet to hand. :• SHOBTLXND WHABF. The Chairman reported that the ground where the Shortland wharf was being extended was so soft' that the Board would hare to go to additional expendi-

ture in placing back piles to keep the others from bulging out. This could not be forseen. ■ ' Several members acquiesced in the remarks of the Chairman, and it was dcci* ♦ ded to incur the extra expenditure. THE AGBEEMENT WITH BOEOUGH. The agreement with the Borough relative to the grant by that body for Harbor works to utilise the -unemployed labor,, was read and signed by three members of the Board. FINANCE. The fortnightly accounts were passed for payment, including progress payments on the silting works, and Short« land, wharf. The totai amount passed totted up to £518 Os Bd. This was all the business.
