The professorial board of Otago University recommend the Council to refuse to assent to the proposal of the Presbyterian Synod to found a chair of moral philosophy and political economy, on the ground, not merely that it would be superfluous, but prejudicial to the best interests of the University, as it could not fail to give rise to an impression throughout the Colony that it was intended to subserve sectarian or ecclesiastical purposes.
