" Eatepayee " in yesterday's issue put some pertinent questions regarding works now being carrkd out by the Borough. If some of the " new blood " in the
Council will elicit a little information regarding these works at to-night's meeting, he will giro salisfact'on to more than one ratepayer. An impression is gaining ground that a con nictar oible amount of expenditure has lately been authorised by the Council for work' which was not of such immediate urgency as some other that has been repeatedly shelved. We should be sorry to say that such is the case, but we know that there is a great difference of opinion as to the piece of road formation now going on in Brown street, not only as to its requirement at all, but as to the carrying oat of the work. If some of the new members of Council Will look wel\ after the expenditure of Borough money, some of these enterprises that look so much like jobs will be thrown out. It is also to be hoped that the Borough Councillors will not hastily commit themselves to a large expenditure on harbor works; for, however desirable it may be to spend money in reclamation, it must be remembered that the burgesses do not pay rates for that purpose, and if there is a plethora of cash r\ the Borough Treasury, the ratepayer* might well expect to get the benefit of such a happy state of taings in a reduction of the general rate.
