CALEDONIAN.
The crushing for this company at the Prince Alfred battery will be finished today, and retorting eventuates to-morrow. Between 30 and 40 loads of stuff has been crushed, the crushing comprising three trial parcels from various parts. The first two lots put through gave a poor yield of amalgam', but the last parcel went somewhat better, yielding an average of about 15dwts. Bowe's tribute section is looking very well, and, notwithstanding the small quantity of stuff broken out, there is nearly a hundredweight of specimens and picked stone on hand. Some opening works ace now. in a stage approaching completion, and the manager will shortly be in a position to break out quartz on a large scale. The lode in the leading stopo which has been left standing with the exception of a few shots averages about six inches in thickness.
