Defendant pleaded not guilty . Constable Hogan, sworn, depo'sed-^I was on duty in Owen street last evening, and saw the accused in front of the Gorernor Bowen. He was endeavouring to create & disturbance, and using bad language. George Symington gave similar evidence.

Constant was charged with a ach of the Licensing Act by permitting liquors'to be sold on Sunday at his licensed house, the Camden Hotel, to persons otherthan travellers, or persons residing therein., f| ', ' > Defendant pleaded guilty. Thomas "Bennett, a lad, was charged with unlawfully shooting native game at Pinko'on Sunday last. Defendant pleaded guilty. Mr Sullen said that in consequence of the wholesale slaughter of native game three constables were "sent, to the Piako on Sunday last, and several persons had been caught breaking the law. William Reid and Richard Davis were also charged with the same offence, and pleaded guilty. The Bench said the defendants would < each be fined £5 and costs. i

William Carroll was charged with having in his possession certain natire game on Sunday last. Defendant pleaded not guilty. , Constable DayV sworn, deposed—l am a ranger under the Protection of Animals Act and produce gazette proclaiming the time during which natire game may be taken and shot. , Detective Brennan, sworn, deposed—l was at' Piako on Sunday last employed detecting offenders under the Protection of Animals Act. I saw the defendant with< a gun concealed behind a bush. When I came up he and a man named Waite, who was also at the pond, ran away. .When I came up I found there were two dead ducks in the pond in front of where' the men were. These are the ducks (produced). They were quite fresh, but Tiad wires through them. " " By defendant—Tou had a gun in your hand, or something very like one. Constable O'Connell gave similar evidence.'.'/ .' .. I Defendant said that the birds were not in his possession, and he had not had a gun in his hand at the time. George Waite was charged with the. lame offence. , , <

Defendant .pleaded guilty. He said that he had not shot the ducks, and had ran away from the constables because he thought'his gun would be taken from him; He would plead guilty, though. The Bench said they would have to adjudge the' defendants as being in possession of the game, and they would each be fined £5 and costs, , ''..". A NUISANCE. Frederick Bryant. was charged with allowing offensive' matter to remain so that it became a nuisance.

Defendant, against whom there were other convictions of a similar nature, pleaded guilty, and was fined 20s and costs. ' ' Court adjourned. -
