New Dramatic Season.

We: are glad to. inform our readers that we will shortly, have a,return of the legitimate drama here, and Mr E. J; DeLias, the popular manager and proprietor of the Auckland Theatre Royal, informs v's by telegraph that he will open here on the 7th with the largest dramatic company that gver visited Grahamstown, Mr G. D. Chaplin being the "star," while amongst the list of members of the company we notice many. Thames favorites, including Mrs W. Hill, Miss Lizzie Morgan, Miss Jessie Raymond, and Messrs Musgrare and J. B. Steele. With such an array of talent the season should prove a good draw, and we hope. Mr DeLias will not have occasion' to regret his enterprise in. providing legitimate . amusement for the Thames public. The Auckland press speak highly of Mr Chaplin's histrionic ability. Qn the occasion of his first appearance there in < the play of " Enoch Arden " the Auckland Star writes as follows:— " Mr G. D. Chaplin, who met with a warm reception, created a very favorable impression. He is a handsome man in the prime of life, with a fine presence and a pleasant sympathetic voice. The part of Enoch Arden. did not give him a great deal of scope for histrionic display, but he, nevertheless/ showed conspicuous ability, and we anticipate great things of bjm, in legitimate

roles. In the island scene he was very good indeed, and brought down the house. At the close of the second, third, and fourth acts he was called before the ' curtain."
