The usual fortnightly adjourned meeting! of this body was held at the Council Chambers at three o'clock' this afternoon. Present—The Deputy Mayor, Crs Eenshaw, Gibbons, Butt, Bead,' and Wilson. ; ' , MINUTES. '\ '" '_ '' Mr, Davies,, Chairman' of, ,the .Waiotahi SchooL Board, waited on the, Council and stated that the Education Board intended to build, a handsome new school on the WaioKaraka Flat, and asked the Council to make- footpaths* in ..Campbell and Cochrane,.streets. He. produced plans of the new school which < the - Councillors looked at. ' . . <'•■
After some discussion it was'resolved, on the motion of Cr Gibbons, that" the Cochrane street footpath fronting the school'site, be made. | '" 7 ■ .■ IBIBHTOWN FOOTPATH. ;* A letter was read from the residents of Irishtown praying for * a footpath from Waio-Karaka to Irishtown. ' ''''■ The Foreman of Works said it would cost £22. '.'•■ ._,".• .r * It was then resolved to Carry out the work. ■' ''' ', ' " '.' BBOWN STREET'FOOTPATH. ' ' A letter was received from Mrs H. CiTstoQ applying to have her footpath made. Agreed to. on the usual conditions. . • ;, ..• , POLLEN STBEET FOOTPATHvj i A letter was read from ''Mr Potterton asking that something may' be done to .repair the footpath in'front •. of Smales' building. ? ': .' , OPPKB ALBEBX'STBEET A letter from Mr J. Graham drawing attention to the bad state of Upper-Albert street in front of his property was referred to Works Committee. WORKS COMMITTEE BEPOBT. ,The report of this Committee was read. The matter of the stone, breaking sheds Was deferred. ' ; Cr Gibbons moved that the fish-market be made.' He said, there was an inclination to shelve this matter. He would like to see the work carried' oat; like the first-plan for* the reclamation, and I'the last plan for the buildings. On Cr Benshatre^uiggestion Cr. Gibbons amended his motic|%« referring the matter to Works CommitteW *. , Cr Eenshaw seconded. 'i •• *X ( < Cr Bead moved, and Cr Wilson seconded, that it be deferred. \,' , On the amendment being put it was carried by the casting vote of the Deputy Mayor. Several other minor items.in the'report were then severally dealt with and the report was' adopted.

Council Chambers Thames,
30th August, 1878. Sib, —It is with much pleasure I tender you on behalf of the Thames Borough .Council a copy of a resolution passed by that body at a meeting held August 30th, 1878 :— ' ■ " That this Council desires to express to J. E. Macdonald, Esq. (for two years Mayor of this Borough), its hearty assurance of esteem on his departure, from from Thames to Napier."
