Serious Accident.
A serious accident, the consequences of which it is feared will .terminate fatally, happened to a lad named George Hurley on Saturday night last. Hurley and some other youths were going through a gymnastic performance at the Volunteer Hillj Hurley lwas 'on bar, about seven feet high, and while " hanging by his calm" suddenly fell onj his head* pa' a mattress on, the floor. iHe groaned a little, and, told some of those about' him tb'pull his ' arm; which] he thought was out. His companions rutjbed brandy and other restoratives into \ his arms and legs, as he seemed faint, but as he appeared seriously hurt a stretcher was procured, and the poor; fellow jwas carried to the Hospital/ where his spine was pronounced to be injured, and as Hnfarorablesyiriptomsi have' iihce sejb in little hopes are entertained for his £ltimate recovery. From enquiries made this morning we learn that; he is slightly better, but it will be impossible to cay for a day, or two whether the, consequents^ will ifatail oij ptherwise: Hurley is a son of Mr Hurley, bootmaker, Shortland, who, with his family, was thinown iinto; great grief by the unfortunate accident' to the young man. ■■ ,»i
