This day,

A fire last night totally destroyed Newtrn's livery stables, Hardy street. It broke out in the loft, which was full of hay, and the whole stables were a mass of blaze when first discovered. Five horses were burnt to death, and two so seriously burnt tbat they had to be shot. One of the latter broke adrift with his clothe 1? burning, and galloped wildly down Trafalgar street and dashed at the door of the club, smashing the glass entrance. The harness and saddlery were all destroyed. They, with the horses, were insured for £300 in the National and £3CO in the Norwich Union. The overseer's house and fuiniti: re, totally destroyed, were uninsured.
