Mr A. Porter, Chairman of the Obinemuri Mining Association, has received the following from the Under* Secretary, Mr Wakefield:—" I have the honor by direction of the Minister of Lands to acknowledge receipt of your letter of 9th ultimo, again referring to the conditions upon which the Government subsidy will be paid to the Association, and to inform you in reply that under the exceptional circumstances of the case, the proximity of ground proposed to be prospected to old workings is not considered a bar to the conditions being complied with, and a subsidy will be paid in. terms of my letter No. 188 on the sth June.last."
