Prospecting in Northern Queensland.
Brisbane, August 2. A party, of five men—Harris, Lowe, and others-—while returning from Coen, prospected the M'lvor River, getting sood colours of gold and plenty of tin. 'hey were forced to leave owing to the thortness of rations. Three horses were killed by the blacks. The party say they are certain to find payable gold within fifty miles of Cboktown, and report splendid pastoral and agricultural land on the banks of the M'lvor, the river being navigable for boats for twenty miles. Advices from Cooktown state that the new goldfield at Palmerville is very promising. The river shows coarse gold fdr a distance of 100 miles below Palmeryille.—S. M. Herald.
