It is understood that the Licensing Sill has been withdrawn, and that another licensing bill much, shorter and quite a different measure will in afew days be submitted to the House. ' •
At the County Conference to day it was resolved that valuers under the Counties and Public Works Act be appointed by Counties. Also, that Counties shall have power to frame by-laws for the eradication of noxious briars, burrs, rabbits, etc. That the Government be requested to alter thp basis of distributing subsidies to County Councils and local bodies, and classifying districts, so that outlying districts may receive more consideration. That County auditors be appointed by ratepayers iv addition to the final audit by the Government auditor. The Conference adjourned till tins evening, when
reports on loans, Counties Act, and reserves will be considered.
