A piece of land in Willis street, 60 feet by 100 feet, adjoining tho Empire Hotel, and formerly occupied as Turnbull's store, was sold by auction this afternoon, and purchased by Mr Thomson, of Thomson and Shannon, for £134 per foot.
Messrs Levin and Co. have received an intimntion thnt the Orient steamer Garonne left Plymouth on the Ist instant for South Australia and Victoria, with 308 pass ngers on board. This day. Mr Curtis gives notice that he will move the following resolutions:—lst. Section of the Constitution Act giving .the Governor power to notninakmembers to the Legislative Council to be repealed. 2nd. The number of members of the Legislative Council to be one-half that of the House of 3rd. Vacancies iv the Council to be filled by persons elected by ballot of the House of Representatives. 4th. , Any Bill passed by the House and objected to by the Council in two successive sessions, the House may require that the Council and House sit together for the consideration of such "Bill, and if a majority of twothirds of the united body vote in favor of the BiU it shall be deemed to have passed both Houses. slh. A similar provision when the House twice rejects a Bill passed by the Council.
