MOANATAIRI.

During last week the tunnel cross-cut has been driven up to the boundary and no reef cut. The manager then resumed the south drive, and after driving 15 feet on Saturday strong water was found to be coming from the face, and this morning some quartz was met with, which will probably turn out to be the long looked for Point Russell reef. The manager's report is subjoined: —150 feet level.—No. 9 reef being poor and disturbed by water courses, I have suspended driving on it as we are only a few feet from the boundary. The cross, cut south has been extended Zl\ fesi; during fortnight, intersecting stringers of quartz, and in the last few feet driven the country is more promising for goldbearing leaders being met with. I have started sinking on No. 9 reef to ascertain if the water will drain through it, and am also putting in a dam to keep it under or east of main slide, there being both cost and trouble of baling. 80 feet level —In driving west No. 9 reef is one foot thick, and compact stone. All the stopes through the mine show no change to remark on, and will for a long time continue to produce payable stuff. During past fortnight 405 tons stuff have been crushed, yielding 200 ounces gold. Tunnel level. —The north cross-cut has been suspended, as it is home to boundary, and still in hard country. The south cross-cut will now be pushed ahead about 40 feet further to prove whether reef is in this direction. Fifteen feet has been driven during past three days, and water .s. now coming from the face. Battery.—Teh head have been stopped for three days past, owing to No. 1 clutch having broken, and the shafting bad to be lifted to put in a new one, which is being done to day.— Yours, &c., Eobt. Comeb. Christie and party have finished crushing for the yield of 3§ozs gold.
