TIMARU.
Sunday.
Father Henneberry opened his mission in the Roman Catholic Church here today before a crowded congregation. At the commencement of his address he referred to himself, and what he had been reported to hare said, to the effect that marriages between Catholics and nonCatholics were no marriages at all, not even if married by priests. He emphatically denied that he had said so. If he had the priests would not sanction his preaching in their churches, and the Bishop would suspend him. He had no doubt a conspiracy was at work to frustrate the good ef bis mission. If in the future they heard such reports through the papers, or sent through means of the Press and the telegraph throughout New Zealand, he raked them not to believe them. He liked cewspaper men and editors Jo curse, and would treat them as such. He never saw such a Press as in New Zealand. Regarding the writ against him for libel* he said there was not a shadow of a case, for all the witnesses in the world and picked juries covld not make a lie of truth. It had been said that he made money by his mission'—that he took £1300 from Reefton. He waa sorry it was not truer He was in debt, and stood before them in debt. (His mission lasts one week, during which there will be services in the Church twice a day.)
