WELLINGTON.
Saturday.
. The following telegram, dated Hawea, this morning, has just been received by the Government from Major Brown:— "Four parties of surveyors are working without interruption on about four thousand acres between Waingongoro and Eap'ne, between the road and the sea. A few natives came yesterday to look
after pigs, and when they were told they Cthe pigs) would not be interfered with, they were satisfied and left. I recommended tiie husband of the principal owner to Bell pigs to the surveyors. He said he would not do so himself as it grieved him to see the survey going on." This day. The Municipal Conference. At the Municipal Conference the question of loans was discussed, and referred to a committee for further report. It was not agreed that it was not advisable to increase the rate of interest at which municipalities can borrow to 8 per cent. A clause is to be introduced compelling local bodies in adjacent cities to put into force the Public Health Act. All fines and penalties under the Dog Nuisance, Publicans', Pawabrokers', Water Works, Drainage Acts, or under any by-law to be paid to the Borough. Resolved that it is desirable, as reclamation adjacent to a Borough extends, the municipal boundaries should follow. Tiie subject of charitable aid will be discussed tomorrow.
