HOKITIKA.
This day.
On Saturday last the steamer Mi!lough was engaged to lighter the Prosperity ii Vie roadstead. She transhipped 40 tons, and whilst entering in yesterday at noon, a heavy sea struck her, breaking the side rod of the engine which completely disabled her. Losing her way, and the tide on the ebb, a strong outward current gradually carried the boat astern, beaching her on the north spit high and dry. It will require considerable outlay to get her off. She is uninsured.
The Garibaldi arrived in the roadstead, also the Prosperity on Saturday. Both put to sea yesterday through the stress of weather. The Zephyr sailed on the 20th for Melbourne via Greymouth;
Captain Edwin's forecasts for ihe last three months have been exceedingly reliable.
