QUEEN OF BEAUTY.
This mine was visited yesterday afternoon. The No. 6 level was first risked, and there I found a stope had been, commenced by contract over the drive in Queen of tbe May section, at a point - about 125 feet back from the lace. The . lode—the Queen of the May footwall leader—is looking very well, gold being ' frequently obtained, while copper and j other good indications are constantly seen. The leader varies from a couple of inches to a foot, and it was from this place that the specimens referred to yesterday were obtained. Yesterday there was * leader • of nice looking quartz, apparently running into the hanging wall, and the manager intends to put a few shots into it. It goes off from the lode near where the most of the specimens were obtained. In this part of the mine the country is all that.can be desired for"the existence ~ of gold. It will be remembered that be* fore the shaft was sunk for, the present low level, a chamber was excavated at a point some 40 or 50 feet above the Piako No. 8. Some little driving was done here, but the men were.flooded out. This, . which is called the, No. 7 level, was next ' visited, und there I found men employed' putting down a winze, which is intended to connect with the No. 8 level. In the back of the level only, a few feet tbove (he bottom of the winze the reef is small, shaken and mqllocky, while in the winze it is a fine strong body of stone at least 5 or 6 feet thick, though one of the wall* has not yet been obtained. the bottom level, driving on the reef at both ends was in progress. In the face towards the Piako boundary the lode is fully ,8 feet of - strong solid quartz, and in the. Queen of the May end it is about 6 feel; from wall to wall. ' In the latter place, a feW feet past, the chamber, a splendid-looking cross-lode about a foot thick junctions with ' the main lode. This the manager has decided to follow as soon as the drive on the main lode is a little forward. Moat of the Work being done in the mine is con* , tract work.
