The Buona Ventura Sunk in the Waihou.
Information was received in town last night of the sinking of the Buona Ventura in the Waihou; some miles abore Omahu. This handy little sieamer has been employed for some weeks past, in carrying wheat to Mr Firth's farm, having landed during that time some three, hundred sacks. She was returning on Tuesdpy afternoon, after delivering the last los,d, when she rai on to a sunken snag end went down. This snag, we are informed, was lying in a slanting direction, and the little steamer's bow rose at one end without sir-iking-' violently, glided over it and went down head first. The master and own*r, Mr Watts, and the others on board, got ashore safely, and are now camped on the river banlr. There was a fresh in the river at the time, and the snag on which the steamer came to grief is supposed to be one of those removed under Mr Firth's snagging operations which had broken away and got brought up in a new part of the channel. The steamer lies in 16 feet of water, and the accident will involve Captain Watts in considerable loss. There is a probability, we believe, of a steamer being sent up to render any assistance that may be required to raise the Buona Ventura, which will be a difficult job at the present season, with the river high and heavy deposits of sand being brought down by the current.
