DUNEDIN.
Wednesday.
At Jae Harbour Board meeting this morning, it was resolved that immediate steps be taken to have all available portions of the Board endowments secured. The object of the Board in carrying this resolution- is to secure the Crawford street block, which may be taken by the Government in con&equence of Sir John Coode's report. In a long letter, to be forwarded to the Government, the Board claimed to be a better judge of the proper site for the railway station than Sir John Coode, and expressed surprise that his report is different from his verbal opinion expressed to members of the Board.
At a meeting of the Education Board, held to-day, a letter from the Dunedin School Committee was read, and the Chairman made a statement as to the situation between the two bodies. He considered the course taken by the Board the proper one. The Board tried to act courteously to and harmoniously with all t" o School Committees, and to secure their co-operation. A letter which had beftu drafted in reply to the Dunedin School Committee was then read. It held the opinion formerly expressed by the Board, and expnssed the Board's willingness that sub-committee should meet sub-committee and discuss the matter.
