NEW NORTH DEVON.

On enquiring at the Moanatairi battery this morning I was informed that the crushing is going at least two ounces per ton. Crashing had to be suspended this morning, as there was a difficulty in getting the stuff down, but it was to be resumed again to-day. The manager sent the fo'low ing telegram off to Auckland today:—" Thames, 2 v.m., P.. A. White, Esq., Auckland.—Shot down reef, 151bs of specimens and picked dirt. Crushing looking for two ounces on plates.—James Mcllhanet."- The specimens above referred to were obtained from the drive, 70 feet from where gold was first obtained.
