WELLINGTON.
Friday. In connection with the appointment; of anew District Judge for Wellington, it is understood that he will have to perform all the various duties which at present devolve upon Mr Crawford, who, besides his duties as resident magistrate, acts as sheriff, registration and returning officer, marshal of the Admiralty Court, and resident magistrate for the Hutt. Judge Ward and Mr Mansford are both spoken of as probable successors to Mr Craw* ford.
The whole of the local Press approve of Mr Clarke's drainage scheme. The rainfall since Cunday has been three inches.
This day. The New Zealander announces that Thomas Anstey Mansford has been appointed district judge for the Wellington and Wairarapa district, and will probably assume his new duties in about a month.
Yesterday tenders were signed for the following contracts :—Extension of railway from Kai Iwi to Waitotara 12 miles, and part extension of the Nelson and Foxhill railway. »
