Quarterly and Annual Licensing Meeting.
The Annual and Quarterly Licensing Meeting for the districts of Thames and Hauraki was held at the Court House Gfahamstown to-day at 12 o'clock. Present—Captain Fraser R.M. (chairman), Messrs John Brown and W. Sonter Licensing Commissioners. Distrjxjt op Thames. new application foe new house. S. Stephenson, Marine Family Hotel, Thames.
Mr Miller applied for an adjournment as the house was not yet completed. He said it was the old hotel removed to a new place. The Chairman said the Bench would adjourn this case till the 25th inst.

The police objected to the granting o f the license, on the grounds that the applicant was an unsuitable person, and the premises were unsuitable. Mr Mi'ler said that since the report was written the premises had been pufcin an efficient state. He arj,urd thata conTiction for an assault was not sufficient to cause the withholding, of the license. The applicant had a warm temper and ia the last case of assault he had been very much provoked. The place where the hotel was situated was half way between Grahamstown and Punga FJat, and was .very necessary. The Chairman said the application would be adjourned til the 25th, when a supplementary report, as to the present condition, of the house, would, be presented. v
