A number of ladies and gentlemen, the friends of Mr Thomas Spencer, Parawai, assembled on Saturday afternoon at the Parawai Gardens to witness the launch of his new steamer the "Memsahib " into the waters of the Kauaeranga. Owing to the state of the tide, the ressel was not launched till about 6 o'clock, when she was successfully committed to her future element, those present drinking success to the beautiful little vessel. The Memsahib which has been almost entirely built by Mr Spencer, is about 15 tons burthen. Her dimensions are—length (over all) 40 feet, beam 85 feet, draught of water aft 3 feet, for-

ward 2 feet 6 inches. She has been built on the diagonal principle, the timber used being heart of kauri. The engine, which was constructed at Messrs Price Bros.' Foundry, is fitted with all the latest improvements, the cylinder being a 6-inch one, with a six-inch stroke. The tubular boiler has been made by Mr Seagar, and is covered with non-conduc-ting composition, whereby a considerable saving in fuel will be made. The propeller is a four-bladed one, and altogether she promises to-., be one of the fastest steamers connected with this pott.
