WATCHMAN.

I Tisi fed the workings of: George and party's liibu to section in the above mine today, and found that they have done a vast amount of dead work since they started T; tk, two or three months ago. A p.',ss has been put down connecting their section jvilh the Sous of Freedom tunnel. This cables them to get their stuff down the tramway at 4s per-ton. They have likewise driven two levels. The upper one 13 in 60 or 70 feet, and having cut a fine 6 foot reef (identical with the Sons of Freed to lode), they are driving both ways on it. At present they are apparently in a "blow;" and tbe reef may be exjecfrd to lessen ia size as driving proceeds or. it. Gold is f. eely disseminated through many of the h. rd quarts stringers which cross and are tangled throughout the lode. There are only 30 feet of backs here, and the tnbaters dp not intend, to do any stoping on .this level, but wait.-till-the stopes from the low level aro up. On visiting the low level, which is about 40 feet below the upper, I found that it ia in 70' feet, and was informed by Mr George (who showed me through the workings) that he expects to pick up the reef about 10 feet further on. The country is splendid for gold-bearing. The triouters have over a dozen men employed. A crushing has bee i started at' the Prince Alfred mill and if it yields anything like their first one did they intend keeping 13 head going. . Half ounce dirt will pay, and the trial yielded 2 or 3 ounces per ton. : If the company start work, it is probable, they will put in a tunnel id cut this veef at a greater-depth. The Little Augel claim, which is the property of George and party, lies peg and peg with their Watchman tribute section. They have men employed fossicking about the claim into which runs the big reef so that having exhausted in the Watchman they will be able to continue operations ia their own ground. / .-.".
