DUNEDIN.
Sunday. At a meeting of the committee of the Dunedin Jockey Glub, the decision of the Auckland Club, in disqualifying Owen Curran McGee from running any horses for a period of two years, and John McGee, the jockey, for riding for a period of twelve months, and the disqualification of the horse Falcon for ever, were confirmed. The Hon. Matthew Ho',mes, and John Thomas Wright, have accepted seats at the Board of the Colonial Bank of New Zealand, in the room of Messrs Larnach and JKattray, resigned. In accordance with Dr Somerville's suggestion, an attempt will be made on Monday to establish a Ladies' Association in Danedin for/charitable purposes. The local expenses of Dr Somerville's mission will amount to £200, and £400 was collected last night towards defraying them. A sham attack on Dunedin took place last night, and for half-an-hour a brisk discharge of rifles and cannon was kept up from various points along the foreshore of the city, and from boats in the bay. G. W. Elliott yesterday received the following telegram :—" The barque Anne Gambles, from London to Nelson via the Bluff, is a total wreck on Te Wai'a Point (east head of the Bluff). The crew were reported safe when I left yesterday. The forward part of the ship was out of the water. A surrey has been held, and it is recommended that the vessel be sold this afternoon." On receipt of this telegram Mr Elliott telegraphed, asking that the sale should be delayed till he went South. He left for the Bluff last night with Capt. Russell, the representative of the insurance companies. The cargo is reported to be a valuable one, and is said to be well insured. There is one policy in the Victoria office for £800.
