PRINCE IMPERIAL.
I went all through this mine with the manager to-day. On reaching the No. 2 level, where operations have beenrecently commenced on the Mariner's reef, good progress is being made in the drive on the lode going inland. In the present face it is much split up, several good large leaders going away into the hanging-wall. The first sign of this disturbance of the lode was at about ten feet back from the face, where a small leader junctions with the main body of stone. However, the lode does not look as if it will be long disintegrated. The. manager has been taking a little quartz from the back of the drive to see what the Jode is like going up. The country is good. These are the only operations in progress in this level, but in the drive southeast several winzes communicate with the low level, and a good deal of driving has been done in the Beach leader, which, however,' is so small that"it does not pay. Going down.the ladder to the bottom level, we proceed, to the west drive, where the country is a little tight, and the leader variable. I was informed that a, little gold is seen here sometimes. Two winzes are no w being sunk below this level, near the shot of gold, and are being put down rapidly. They are about 40 or 50. feet from each other, and follow the underlie of the No. 2 reef, which is lying very flat. The stopes over the level are getting very extensive, and must now be between 150 and 200 feet along, while the highest is about 40 feet above the back of the level. They are narrow, and not very well ventilated. They are yielding a good deal of quartz just now, and gold is occasionally seen, though it seems that the lode does not increase in richness going up.
