(Before W. Fraser, Esq., 11. M.) _ DRUNKENNESS. One individual, a first offender, was charged with drunkenness. He pleaded guilty, and was fined 10s, or 24 hours' imprisonment. . , . VAGBANOT. Mary Stewart was charged, with having no lawful visible means of support. Defendant said that she had people that she worked for. Mr Bullen stated the case, which ys as to the effect that defendant gained her living by prostitution, and, was a nuisance to her neighbors. ¥. J. Wardell sworn, deposed—l reside in Block 27, and know the defendant. She has, resided in Block 27 for seven years, near my residence. Ido know how she makes a living; but I see men visiting her place at all times, some of them drunk. I have seen her drunk. Lately she has become a perfect nuisance from the rows in her house. In view of abating this nuisance I offered to purchase her house.

Defendant said she was respected up there, and bad never done anything dishonorable.

— Noonan, sworn, deposed—l reside in the vicinity of defendant's place, and have ! done so for the last twelve months. I do not know that she does any work. She lives alone, but 1 have frequently seen' men going to and fro, and some waiting outside. There are frequently rows, and I have often been disturbed in the night. I have seen her drunk. On Tuesday'last there were two men outside, and I heard one of them make an offer to her of money. \ - George Henderson, sworn, deposed— I reside near Mrs Stewart's, and have lived there for 12 months. I never saw the defendant to do any work, and know she is reputed to be a prostitute. I have been disturbed on several occasions by men comiug about. I have seen her drunk. Constable Day, sworn, deposed—l am stationed at t-hortland. I served a summons on Mrs Stewart yesterday. She was drunk. Defendant said that she worked for a living. She had never been brought up for drunkenness nor any other offence. She could not help people knocking at her door. His Worship: You will be sent to prison for 3 months. Defendant: Oh, my (Jod. On being removed from the Court to the cell defendant became obstreperous, and roared and howled in a most vigorous manner. Court adjourned.
