There has been some severe fighting in Macedonia and Epirus, of which varying accounts are given. JReinforcements of Turkish troops are being sent to the disturbed Provinces.
The French press continnes to recommend national abstention from active interference in the Eastern Question. The proceedings of the Chambers have been without much interest. M. Paul de Cassagnae fought a duel on Wednesday with M. Andrieux, a Republican Deputy, but neither combatant was hurt.
A Durbar was held on Monday at Peshawur, at which the submission of the Jowaki tribe was received by the Li«u« tenant-Governor in the presence of the native chiefs of the border districts.
There has been a debate in the United States Senate respecting thd award of the Fisheries Commission, but it is believed the award will be recognized by the Government.
' The St. Petersburgh journals continue to express indignation at the suggested submission of the Treaty signed between Russia and Turkey to Powers which hare not been parties to the war, or to its conclusion ; but they allow that thereare certain special points which may beMUcussed. It is, however, reported that the German Government has intimated to St. Petersburg that the reservations made by the British and Austrian Cabinets in assenting to the Congress are deserving of consideration.
Prince Bismarck, notwithstanding a renewed attack of illness, remains in Berlin.
It is again asserted that the Russian troops are approaching nearer to Constantinople. The visit of the Grand Duke .Nicholas to the Sultan, which has been delayed by objections to a numerous military escort, remains unfulfilled.
