PRINCE IMPERIAL.
Crushing of some 50 or 60 loads of quartz has been commenced at the Prince Alfred mill, the parcel having been chiefly derived from the No. 2 lode. At the No, 2 level the Mariner's reef is being driven on, and has a very healthy appearance. It is more than a foot in width, and good colors of gold are seen in the stone. When the lode was worked in this level some time back, it did not yield satisfactorily. The manager intends to forward a few tons to the mill as a trial before the present crushing is finished. .At the bottom level the. sinking of the winzes is making good progress, and the. quartz coming out is apparently of a payable grade. In the stopes the stone coming out is not of such good quality as formerly, and it does not appear to get better going' up. There is an immense quantity of quartz in the block yet. Both the east drives on the main lode and offshoot have been suspended, they being small and not offering sufficient inducement to follow at present. In the western or seaward drive a great improvement in the lode has been manifest Bince it was recovered after the heave it took some weeks back, and, as far as can be judged by appearances, it is improving as driving progresses on it. It is of good size, and some first-class colors and small dabs of gold have been obtained from it during the past two or three days. :
