RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT THIS DAY.
(Before W. Fraser, Esq., R.M.) DBUNKENNESS. One individual was charged with this offence. He pleaded guilty and was fined 10s and costs with the usual alternative. DRUNKENNESS AND OBSCENITY. John Paul wa* charged with having being drunk and disorderly in Campbell street on Saturday, and also with having made use of indecent language at the same time and place. Defendant pleaded guilty to the charge of drunkenness, but said that he did not know anything of the other offence. It was his first offence, and he hoped that His Worship would look leniently into it. A woman (Mrs JJenney) had excited him by making gestures at him. * His Worship said he would be fined 40s and costs. ASSAULT. John Newland was charged with assaulting Daniel Sullivan. Defendant pleaded guilty. Mr Macdonald appeared for the plaintiff and stated that the two men were working at Bagnall's Saw Mi 1!, and the defendant asked Sullivan what time it was, to which Swllivan replied that it was five minutes to four, and defendant called him a liar, to which Sullivan made some answer, and defendant struck him a heavy blow on the face. Defendant denied calling Sullivan a liar. Two mill hands named Qaarterman and Kitching deposed to seeing the assault, but did not hear anything said. Fined 40a and costs. TBANSFEBS OF LICENSE. Frederick Tetley applied for the transfer of the license of the Coach and Horses Hotel to William Swindles. Granted.
G. Carson applied for the transfer of the licence of the Diggers' Resi Hotel, Kiraka, to F. Tetley. Granted. Court adjourned; .
