Miscellaneus.
The settling-up for the races, so far as bets were concerned, took place last night, and in most cases in a satisfactory manner. There were, however, a few disputes on account of inaccurate entries, but they were arranged. As usual, however, there are several challenges after the race meeting. The most important which has transpired is that offered by Mr. McGee to race his mare Elsa, at weight for age or even weights, against the pick of Mr Walters' stables. The latter is. understood to be willing to accept for a mile} but this is not considered good enough* and the. wager is likely to fall through, as things of this sort usually do. Remark has been made that the sitting of the Native Lands Court at the Thames, which has so. much important business to dispose of, has not been gaxetted. It is said that the chief judge is delaying till the vacancies in the judgeship of the Native Lands Court are filled up.
