CHRISTCHURCH.

Friday.

The Ahauriri estate, the property of Bichard Fleming, situate on the peninsula, fifteen miles from Christehurch, was sold at auction to-day. 4167 acres realised £34,500. It has been sold in blocks of various sizes at per acre, ranging from £6 10s to £20.

This day. A disastrous fire occurred in Cashel street about 12 last night, completely destroying McClutchie's furnishing warehouse, and doing considerable damage to the buildings of Anderson's machine works. The fire originated in a small shed at the rear of McClutchie's. The cause is unknown, but everything was safe at 10.30 p.m., when tho last of McClutchie's men left. McClutchie is insured in the London, Liverpool and Globe for £1000, but the estimated value of the stock destroyed is £2000, and the premises are worth £SOO or £1000. Andemon's loss comprises the partial destruction of workshops and offices, and total destruction of a valuable collection of patterns. Insured in the South British and National for £2000. This is far below the damage done.

A child 2 years old, son of Samuel Barwell, farmer, was accidentally burnt to death by a grass fire ignited by its father.
