Eliza Sullivan was charged with unlawfully using abusive language in Eolleaton street yesterday. ■■' Defendant, an elderly woman, pleaded not guilty. William Newman, sworn, deposed—l am a grocer residing at Bolleston street. The defendant lives next door with her sons; In consequence of instructions from one of her sons 1 refused to give her goods on Wednesday night; She abused me, add yesterday she came and called me "a great red ——/'and a."rotten rogue." This was in the street. Louis Turrell, sworn, deposed—l reside in Bolleston street and know the last witness and the defendant. , Yesterday I heard her call someone •• a— — —. ; I don't know who it was. ' !. In answer to the Bench Mr Bullen said that there were no previous convictions against the, defendant. , ■ : ' The defendant said she had nothing to say in answer to the charge. His Worship said that the offence which the defendant was guilty of, was a serious one indeed, as she had made herself liable to a fine of £10 or 3 months' imprisonment. In this case as there were no previous charges against her he would take lenient view of the case, and inflict a fine of 40s, and costs, or 7 days' imprisonment.

WANDBBIN& COW.

David Maxwell was charged with unlawfully allowing one cow to wander at at large in Pollen street, Thames. Defendant pleaded guilty, and was fined 2s 6d, and costs. .

Court adjourned.
