PIAKO.
Yesterday the contractors driving the Vanguard cross-cut came on an entirely new class of country to that hitherto met* with, the change being from blocky blue country to a white sandstone formation. The manager looks on the change as* matter for gratulation, as the cross-cut can be put in more rapidly, while it it-alto favorable to an auriferous lode. Front the underlie of the lode in the upper level, the cross-reef should be cut within the next 50 feet, while the-Vanguard maiav reef may be expected 20 or 30 feet further on. The new tribute part.es all made a fair start yesterday, and most of them are sanguine of doing well. Wilton's and Noonan s crushings are both showing up for payable averages from the large tonnages they are crushing. Wilton's shaft continues to make first-rate progress.
