Tuesday. Further report of the finding of alluvial gold near Wellington are prevalent. The body of Captain Allen, of the schepner Maiden City was found to-day floating near the breastwork. An inquest will be held to-morrow. Allen had been missing since last Tuesday. It is reported that Major Heapby has been appointed Commissioner of Annuities, in conjunction with the duties of hii present office. It is stated here authoritatively that there is no truth in the statem3nts that disagreements exist between Ministers and J. £. Fitzgerald, and that certain heads.;of departments in the Civil Service have been obstructive. The Post says:—" We are assured by the present Government that they hare' received the most cord'al, ready, and painstaking support and assistance from all the departments of the civil service; that they have found tho members of the civil service most able and efficient officers; and that no obstruction or insubordination whatever has been encountered by the Government in carrying out their views, either on questions of general policy or in their projected re-organisation of the service."
