Melbourne, Tuesday.

His Excellency the Governor prorogued Parliament to the 21st of May in a brief speech, in which he mentioned that Ministers would forthwith prepare a measure to alter the Constitutional

statute.

After the prorogation to-day, the Speaker, preceded by the Sergeant-at-Arms bearing the mace, attended by the clerks of the Assembly, and accompanied by the Ministry and many of the members, proceeded to the Governor's Chambers in the Treasury and presented an address. ■

The Governor made a suitable reply, expressing his thanks.
