Thames Borough Council.

A special meeting of the Thames Borough Council wan bold at the Council Chambers this morning for the purpose of arranging for the reception of-the 60Ternor. There were present—His Worship the Major; Crs Kenshaw, Howe, Price, and Wilson.

The Mayor said that be did not think that the Borough would have to bear the onus of the reception, as it was chiefly at the instigation of the County authorities that the Governor was coming. It was proposed to hare a citizens' ball, and (ho Governor, who would be accompanied by Col. Whitmore, the officers of the Nymph, and probably the Marchioness, were to be entertained by the County, as the main road was to be opened by His Excellency. Cr Price thought, that no money for the reception should come out of the public funds. A subscription to defray expenses should be raised.

Cr Howe thought that suck expenses as carriages for the Governor and suite should be borne out of the public money.

After some further discussion the Mayor, Crs Howe and Wilson were appointed a committee to draw up an address, and make other necessary arrangements, and actwith representatives of other local bodies.

The Mayor said that it was proposed that the Harbor Board and influential citizens would meet the vice-regal party at the end of the wharf and present their address, and then the Borough Council would present theirs at the toll-house.

The meeting then adjourned till 10-80 a.m. to-morrow.
