A RATEPAYER ON DIVIDING THE BOROUGH INTO WARDS.

(To tho Editor of the Evekiwo Stab.)

Sib,—A great deal of mysterious business has been going on lately about dividing the Borough into, wards, for the purpose of conciliating the bloated aristocrats of Farawai, so as to induce them to come into the Municipality. I am told that the only terms on which they consent to come in are, that their district shall be made a separate ward. Now, what does this mean, besides spending their own rates? Why they want to have a share of our publicans' and other license fees, which amount to a considerable sum. I don't see it, Mr Editor, and I (protest against admitting such selfish people. And what do they offer us in return by condescending to become a separate ward ? Why nothing, bryond that you might get endowments within their boundaries. Now, it is a wellknown fact that there is not ten acres of decent land in the whole place to be had, and much more 100 acres, fchould the district come into the Borough, do please ask Mr E. H. Power to apply to the Council to hare the name changed from Para-wai (filthy water), for the place, like its name, becomes more odorous the more it is stirred.—l am, &c, A Boeouoh Batepayeb,
