She thus began: •*' Good day to* yon, Mr Emperor. I hope you enjoy good health. How is your mother P Is she likewise well?" Joseph replied to each of these questions, beard her request, gave her some pieces of gold, and sent her away well satisfied; then, turning to his attendants, he said: " Thia good woman is the only person who haa spoken to me of my rnotntr during my journey. She shall see her son in eleven days, and free from all military engage* ments."
A Pennsylvania Dutchman, who soar* ried his second wife soon after the funeral of the first, was visited with a two hours' serenade in token of disapproval. He' expostulated pathetically thus: "Isay, poys, you ought to be ashamed of yourself* to be making all dis noise Ten dar vas a funeral here so toon."
