WAR, GLORIOUS WAR.

Glory ii a- Terr fine thing./ lam oily a " pekin," a civilian, and I know nothing •bout glory j bat I confess thai my blood runs cold, and that my heart sicken** when I hear politician* pertly prating about the " arbitraibentt of the sword, and "war blearing the atmosphere," and 10 forth. I never met* Glory yet, and I don't know what he or she is like; bat I hare met with War faos to face half a dozen times in as many countries. I hare looked into the whites, or rather the crimsons, of his eyes, and I have gasad upon the sisters who follow him wherußT ever he goes. They are three sisters, Rapine,' Disease; and Death. This 1 is, of course,, a miserably craven and spiritless ; way of looking at war. I cannot help it; I hare seen only war's wickedness and madness, its foulness and squalor. To me it has represented nothing, but robbery aud profligacy, but famine and slaughter; and I cannot but think that if the warlike 5 politicians were to witness just half an ■ hour of actual warfare as I hare witnessed it in America,, in; Italy, in Mexico, in France, in Spain, their martial ardour would, cool down a little and they would not be quite so prompt to blow the bellicose trumpet.—G.
