GISBORNE.

Wednesday. The case of the Crown v. Lawrence and others, in which the latter as manager for the late Captain Bead, is charged with forcibly entering the dwelling-house of C. T. Cribb on the 26th ultimo, occupied the Comt until twelve last night, and is continued to-day. The evidence of the sergeant of police shows that the case is nothing like so serious as telegraphed by the Press Agency. No bloodshed was imminent, and many disturbances have occurred here more serious than this one. The Herald says the account as forwarded to the papers of the colony is exaggerated, and calculated to bring the town into bad repute. The case is likely to last all day. Many native troubles are looming since Captain Bead's death. The Maoris hold a large meeting to-day to consider what titles they shall repudiate.

This day. A criminal prosecution against Lawrence and others, in the late destruction of property case, occupied the past two days at the Resident Magistrate s Court. It may be slated that forcible entry was clearly proved, but the tenant swore that he permitted tho entry. The case was dismissed. The magistrate is recommending that proceedings be taken against both sides.
