Thames County Valuation.

THIS DAY. The Assessment Court, for the purpose of hearing all objections to the valuation list of the County of Thames, was held to-day at St. George's school; Bolleston street, before Captain Fraser, Judge. Shortland Sawmill Company, 28,800 acres, Hastings, £400. In this ease the Court applied to hare the valuation made higher. His Worship said in this and several other eases the County had neglected to send in the objections to the Court before the 15th, and the valuation would hare to remain as it was. H. Alley, 4000 acres at Hikutaia £760, 200 acres Omahu, £50, not the owner or occupier. For the County Mr Maedonald raised the objection that the objection was not signed by the appellant in full as it was only signed H. Alley. . Mr Brassey for the appellant submitted that. the objection was trifling, as the section only required the signature " to be as near as might be." His Worship said that the residence of the appellant was not given either. He also said they would have to sustain the objection to the appeal. Assessment confirmed. W. Earle, 2099 acres Orougo, £300; value less than stated.) William Earle, sworn, deposed—The land is not used for anything. It has no sheep or anything on it. It is not worth more than £50. And the selling value is not more than £2000. By Mr Maedonald—No company has ever been formed in connection. Thorp, 3 allotments of 60 acres each, Waihi plains, £10. Excessive Valuation. Mr C. Lawlor appeared for his brother and Mr Thorp in 'support of the objections. There were no roads. Mr Yernoh stated that the sections

were in grass, and had been reduced lait year. Assessment sustained. David Snodgrass, allotment and shop, bakehouse, Facroa, £25; allotment and house, Pacroa, £8. Valuation sustained. E. Cardno, 29 acres, saw mill, Ac, Ohinemuri. Not owner. Assessment confirmed (objection not ruled). F. Whitaker—l2oo acres, Puronga, £630. Not owner or occupier. Appeal sustained. J. Bright—Allotment and house, Parawai, £20. Excessive valuation. No appearance of objector. Assessment confirmed. F. C. Dean—Allotment and house mission ground, £30. Not occupier. H. H. Wright's name-inserted. L. Ehrenfried applied to have his name inserted instead of that of the Bcv. T. Burrows. Granted. T. Hoiles applied to haw T. Spencer's name inserted instead of his. - No ap« pearance. Not granted. John Bead applied to have his name inserted in the list in respect to some fluming in Parawai. Application granted. The same applicant asked to have hii name inserted on the list in place of T. Bead. Application granted, ~sk^ W. 8. Aitken applied to btflTOolin Childerhouse's name inserted instead of F. F. Day's. Mr Carron appeared and said that the highest offer he had reeeired waj £60. There were only a few trees in the bush. Beduced to £60. F. Chsllis applied to hare W. Beaeh'a name substituted for his in respect to a house and allotment at Tararu. Application granted. W. Daldf, house, Waikowau, £10. Not liable being on natire land. - Ho appearance of appellant. Not sustained. F. Whitaker, 48} acres, Te Mata creek, £20. Not owner or occupier. Appeal granted. Thomas Kelly, (manager for' Union Sash and Door Company), 96jC00 acres land, sawmill, booms, dam, two wharree, etc., Tairua, £1300. Mr Hesketh appeared for the appellant and stated that his client, Mr Kelly, had had! no notice of his name being on the roll. He applied to hare Kelly's name struck off. His Worship said that he could not do so on* less Kelly was present. Assessment sustained. The Court then rose. .
