Waite and party have taken up the piece of ground at the Shellback formerly the Siani. Telegraph, and other wellknown claims which some years ago paid well, notwithstanding that the expenses of carting and crushing in those days, as compared with the present, were really enormous. The present shareholders who have not been in the claim a month are developing a very likely looking leader, and colors of the precious metal have been seen. Tho. list of shareholders is large, and in it appear names .of men which might almost be looked upon as a guarantee of success. The praiseworthy action of the County Council in opening uo the more inacessible tracts of auriferous land, is the chief cause of the pegging out of this and many other of the new claims which have recently been taken up.
