OLD GOLDEN CALF.
The crushing of 88 loads from this mine was finished at the Queen of Beauty battery yesterday afternoon for the respectable return of 176 ounces of gold. Xae quartz supply, is chiefly from the .j> vee lodes worked i l the bottom level, all of which are giving fair prospects. The amalgamated companies' drive, which has been retarded through want of sufficient ventilation, will shortly be in progress again, as it is intended to lay down air boxes from the shaft. The present face is not more than 30 feet from the Calf boundary, and, as it is some ICO feet below the shaft, it will effectually drain the present levels of the mine, and when the shaft is connected, it will form the nucleus of extensive low level operations, which are likely to be highly successful, as the indications strongly point to the downward continuation of the lodes increasing in value.
