J. Hivett and Henry Thomassen were fighting at the Eakata onjThursday, when, after two or three rounds, Hivett knocked I'homassen down, and the latter died shortly after. The Selwyn County Council, which'recently passed a resolution bringing the whole Act into operation, have discovered that it is illegal, and the subject will have to be discussed again.
The Council resolved to press on the Government the desirability of having certain.branch railways surveyed at once.
At a meeting of the Cricket Association it was resolved that it is expedient that the annual matches with Otago^e continued, and, if possible, that a match be played this season. ; •■-....;*
