YESTERDAY.

(Before W. Fraser, Esq., 8.M.) After the adjournment the following business was transacted :— DOUGLAS T. ADLAM. Claim, £45 11* 3d, goods. Mr Dodd appeared for the plaintiff. It. T. Douglas, sworn, deposed—lama baker. Defendant is indebted to me in the amount stated. I received two dishonored cheques from Adlam, which I will give up when my money is paid. Mr Dodd argued that Mr Douglas should have given credit for the two cheques. His Worship said Mr Dc Jglas had a perfect right to hold them in security till the debt was paid. Judgment for plaintiff £45 14a 3d, and costs, £116s. AGJJEB BAXTER V. HOXOBA MCMANUB. Claim, £33 3s 7d, balance of account.

Mr Brassey for the plaintiff ; Mr Dodd for defendant.

Mr Dodd raised the question of jurisdiction, but His Worship ruled that he had jurisdiction. Honora McManus, sworn, deposed-^l am a school teacher. When I was at the Eureka School I didn't receive any money for four months, but .the first money I got I paid plaintiff, and made monthly payments up to 1875. I gave her my pass book, nnd have never got it back. Ido not owe her all that. I paid there £5 and £1 10s, which I did not get credit for.

Agnes Baxter, sworn, deposed—l supplied goods amounting to £102 odd, and received £GG 12s. I have never received any other payments. My son made up the books from a day-book kept in the shop., The account is correct in every particular. Robert Baxter, sworn, deposed—l am a son of last witness, and have been in the habit of posting up my mother's books. The items were taken from the day* book.

Honora McManus, sworn, deposed—l am a daughter of tho defendant. The pass book, which the items of the account were in, is not like that on* (produced.) Ellen Baxter, sworn, deposed—l do not recollect getting a pass book for my mother to enter up a couple of payments. Judgment for plaintiff £33 3* 7d, and costs, £4 18s.

ALLEY V. TIKIPOAKA. ' Claim, £20, price of two steew. Mr Brassey for the plaintiff, and Mr Pockey interpreted. - ';' Henry Alley, sworn, deposed—l \m a settler residing at Thames river. Defendant is indebted to me in the sum of £20 for two steers. I hare never been paid. I think it was £18 he was to pay, but I added interest.

Tinipoaka, sworn, deposed—The two steers which I received were to be £8 each. I made an entry at the time, when there were many, of the Komata people present. Alley was to be paid by Mackay. Judgment for plaintiff £16, and costs, £3 Us. Court adjourned.
